Fibromyalgia Medication
Because fibromyalgia has a broad spectrum of symptoms, treating fibromyalgia needs a broad spectrum of prescription as well as alternative treatments, too. So far, the one silver bullet fibromyalgia medication has not yet been produced in pharmaceutical laboratories for one good reason: doctors are still yet to discover the main cause of the condition. Unless the root cause is discovered, developing a specific medication couldn't start.
Fibromyalgia medication today only involves targeting each symptom with known prescription drugs. Because fibromyalgia symptoms are numerous, doctors often resort to prescribing numerous drugs, too. These broad spectrums of medication often result to antagonistic reaction of the drugs, and it can put the health (even the life) of the patient at risk. That's why more patients are choosing the alternative ways of treating their fibromyalgia symptoms. Alternative medicines/healing are oftentimes plant based and spiritually centered approach to treatment; avoiding the dreaded antagonistic effects of synthetic preparations.
The synthetic forms of fibromyalgia medication include analgesics or pain prescription such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, tramadol, and naproxyn. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory like nabumetone, etodolac, and Cox-II inhibitors are also given. Corticosteroid anti-inflammatory such as dexamethasone and prednisone can also be prescribed. Although controversial, but some doctors also resort to using opioids to treat the pain. But, the use of opioids is highly monitored by doctors to avoid developing addiction and tolerance to the narcotics.
Because of the many side effects of using synthetic fibromyalgia medication, many patients and doctors are also trying the alternative way to treat the condition with some success. Some famous alternative fibromyalgia medication includes aromatherapy, reflexology, acupuncture and acupressure, and massage therapy. Even digestive system cleansing is also considered a good therapy to eliminate body toxins that may worsen your fibromyalgia. Relaxation techniques are also good to fight depression and stress due to fibromyalgia, if your mind feels well and good, then your body follows.
Fibromyalgia medication can be depressing in itself since you can't take one medicine that can plug all your symptoms. But, if you combine your doctor's prescription with some known alternative healing regimen, there's a great chance that you can win your battle against fibromyalgia symptoms.
